our story

About us

SEND in the Dengie was created by parents with lived experience. Families in the rural Dengie often travel long distances for SEND provision, so we set out to bring meaningful opportunities closer to home — reducing isolation and building a community where everyone belongs.

We’re an established community organisation, now progressing to charitable status (CIO), with several successful grants secured and regular activities already underway.

Our mission is to improve opportunities for children and young people with SEND and their families across the Dengie — through welcoming, inclusive and affordable activities.

  • Parent-led & informed by lived experience
  • Flexible & understanding of complex needs
  • Non-judgemental — participation over perfection
  • Local venues across the Dengie Peninsula
  • Community-led with strong governance
what to expect

How our sessions work

Predictable, calm and built around your family.

Family-centred, not drop-off

Sessions are family-centred and parents/carers remain responsible for their children throughout — giving flexibility and the right support for complex needs.

Low-demand approach

Small groups, reduced sensory demands and clear communication. There’s no pressure to join in — children can take part at their own pace.

Easy, affordable booking

Find an event and tap Book your place to book securely through BookWhen. You’ll get a confirmation email with everything you need.

Tell us what helps

Not sure if a session is right for your child? Get in touch — we’re happy to talk it through and prepare for any needs before the day.
